Cereal Buns, Anyone?

Hi Friends,

Hope everyone had a delightful weekend. It was a little dreary for a May weekend, but the perfect excuse for tucking in at home amidst all this excitement of going out to eat again. Remember to keep on supporting your local businesses because they need you more than ever especially second generation businesses without social media presences and large marketing budgets. I ate at Seoul Gom Tang this past weekend, my favorite galbitang destination in Oakland and was reminded that the pandemic hasn't been kind to small family owned businesses, so remember your spending choices still really matter right now.

This is part of the reason why we decided to partner with The Third Place, they are building business and customer relationships through sustaining subscriptions for local businesses. Bonus is that they deliver Bake Sum Boxes in San Francisco on Saturdays and South Bay on Fridays currently. We hope to expand into the East Bay soon and just shoot us a line if there is a locale that you'd like to see added as well.

Feast your eyes on the newest bun in the collection, the Cereal Bun, filled with a cornflake infused pastry cream inspired from none other than Milk Bar's Cereal Milk. A creation by Morgan Davis, a baker on the Bake Sum Team and is featured in our Bake Sum Boxes this week.

Each pastry box includes:

Cereal Milk Bun: Fluffy milk bread filled with a cereal infused cream and a colorful crunchy concha inspired top. Our newest addition to the menu with a flavor profile that will delight any cereal lover.

Ube Milk Bun: Fluffy milk bread filled with an ube, purple yam pastry cream, topped with a crunchy, purple concha inspired top.

Okonomiyaki Danish: Inspired by the Japanese pancake, Okonomiyaki, this danish is topped with a veggie mornay and finished with Kewpie Mayonnaise, Okonomiyaki sauce, furikake, and bonito flakes.

Green Onion Croissant: "A barely contained bouffant of golden pastry that is remarkable not just for its airy interior — green flecks of scallion trapped in the web of translucent dough" as described in the SF Chronicle. We layer in black and white sesame with a toasted sesame oil and green onions into our croissant dough and then bake until golden.

Chocolate Brownie with Toasted Hazelnuts: Our rich and fudgey brownie features a little bit of our sourdough from our bread loaves! It's topped with toasted hazelnuts and dark chocolate.

Mochi Bites: Our mochi bites come in four flavors — Ube, Black Sesame, Blue Jasmine and our newest flavor, Lychee. Inspired by Hawaiian butter mochi, they're crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and perfect for retoasting the next day too.
